Chuffers

The Chuffers are several members of WMS who own, or are interested, in model railways. We meet at regular intervals, usually around someone's house. Here we help each other with building their layouts, and/or chat about them over cups of tea and sometimes slices of cake. All aspects of model railways are discussed and evaluated from DC or DCC control to the building of ancillary buildings.

We are interested in all different scales and era's as well as all forms of locomotion whether it be steam, diesel, diesel electric or just electric. All are welcome to see what we are up to and willing to give help to those who are starting out and want some help and advice.

Latest News From The Chuffers

The “Chuffers” came about when Ray Cutbush decided he wanted a new model railway layout. He recruited 2 other Shed members, Dave Cooper, and Grahame Andrews to assist him in his project. A while later I was recruited because of my limited electrical knowledge. Over the last couple of years, we have been meeting roughly once a week for 3 hours slowly building things.
At the beginning Ray had decided that the gauge of the layout would be 00 and it would be DCC (Digital Command Control) controlled. Now DCC is a new concept to me as I haven’t been involved with model railways since I was a kid, many moons ago! Things have progressed so much. Now with DCC you are able to run many trains at the same time, and they come with all sorts of sounds of real trains and some even generate steam!
The picture on the below show’s Ray’s layout during the early days. Ray is planning to run various trains on his layout. From London underground trains to steam and diesel units.
