Music Group
The Music Group is open to all Shed Members. You can either bring along a track to play (CD or by mobile app preferred) or just come along and listen to the selections of others. We have a monthly theme, and all types of music are welcome. The Club meets on a monthly basis throughout the year – normally the first Wednesday in the month and starting as soon as possible after 9.30 in the room at the back of the bar near the pool table. There is no additional charge other than the usual £2 Shed sub payable in the social room. We also run a quarterly Music Quiz in the same room after four sessions each year, from 12 - 2, with lunch or snacks available from the bar.

The March session was a really good one, as the theme of “The First Record I Bought”provided a wide range of music both in genres and time, with the earliest being originally a big hit in sheet music sales from 1900 and the last from the Stock Aitken and Waterman stable in 1987. The early song was Barrie’s choice, although he obviously is not that old, while Wayne is our Nineties boy. There was a good turnout as always, but with a couple of members coming in late, and the consequent shuffling of chairs, I had my work cut out to get everyone’s score in the right place on the sheet!
The top five tunes were:
1st “Let’s Dance” by Chris Montez, picked by Ray, on 8.16
2nd “When you Were Sweet Sixteen” by The Fureys and Davey Arthur, picked by Barrie, on 7.47
3rd “Only Sixteen” by Craig Douglas, picked by Bill, on 7.3
4th “My Boomerang Won’t Come Back” by Charlie Drake, picked by Malcolm, on 7.21
5th “’Woodstock” by Matthew’s Southern Comfort, picked by Miles, on 7.17
Our next meeting will be on Wednesday April 1st, when the theme will be “One Word Title”. Make sure you are there by 9.30 so we can make a good early start.
After the Session finished around 12.15, we moved the room around and started our first Quiz of 2026 around 12.30. This was Wayne’s debut as Question Master, and what a debut it was! He’d put together a really different quiz, with a nice variation in the range of questions, from lyrics, through intros and general knowledge, to highest selling artists (we all didn’t do very well on that bit….). Everyone won a music-based keyring as a prize, and we all had a great time. Well done Wayne!
We always have a good time and lots of good-natured chat, so if you enjoy music of any kind why not come along? You don't even have to bring along something to play if you don't want to, as you are more than welcome to just come and listen to our many and varied selections.
