Music Group Latest News

This was my first solo running of the Music club, but fortunately all went well bar the usual sound issues which always seem to bite at some point during the meeting. There were 16 of us attending and 14 tracks played, so we all had a chance to play our choice in the two-hour session.

This month's theme was “Sounds of the City,” which turned out to be a good theme as it provided a lot of choice for us. We heard a wonderful selection of songs, ranging from Tony Bennett's 1950's classic “I left my heart in San Francisco” to the current sounds of First Aid Kit, and from brass bands to glam  and punk rock There were some very evocative songs played, and scoring was very high. 6 songs scored over 100 and two only just missed this on 99, which is quite unusual. The top five on the day were:
1. “Big Yellow Taxi” by Joni Mitchell with 129 points
2. “Dedicated Follower of Fashion” by The Kinks with 115 points
3. “London Calling” by The Clash with 105 points
4. “Warwick Avenue” by Duffy with 104 points
5. “I Can Hear Music” by The Beach Boys with 102 points
This month's meeting is on July 3rd, where our theme is “Driving with the Top Down”.
We are a friendly bunch, so if you enjoy music of any kind why not come along? You don't even have to bring along something to play if you don't want to, as you are more than welcome to just come and listen to our many and varied selections. Please don’t forget to sign in and pay the usual £2 session fee.”
