For the first time ever, I have two sessions to report on, as we started a new quarterly “Long Song” session on July 29th. Our normal sessions have a time limit of 5 minutes for any song played, so this new session opens up this to 10 minutes to allow things to be played that wouldn’t be acceptable normally. The downside is of course that we can’t have as many songs played. This wasn’t a problem for the first session, when we had 15 attendees, and 11 songs played. These were very wide ranging, both in time period and type of music, going from classical to rock and back again. The next session for this will be hopefully held in October, and I will circulate the date once set.
The top five tunes were:

Our normal monthly session was held on the 5th August, with a theme of “My favourite music to drive to”. August is always a quieter month, and a depleted turn out resulted in a much quicker session than normal, with only 13 songs played. The range was as usual very eclectic, with Wagner played next to 90’s dance, and American soft rock against classics from Chuck Berry and The Beach Boys.

If you wonder why the scores are very different from the two sessions, I’ll tell you why…. When everyone stays in the room for the whole session my job is a lot easier as all I have to do is add up the scores (although even that is difficult if I like the next song as adding up and listening along don’t go well together!). However, if we get people joining us after the session has started, I have to divide each score by the number of people in the room at the time the song is played. This is why you might see a score like 107 or one like 7.01…...
Our next meeting will be held on the first Wednesday of next month, September 2nd, when the theme will be “My 60’s favourite”. It’s also the time for our next MUSIC QUIZ, which this time will be hosted by Les. This will start at around 12.15, and as usual food will be available from the Sporty Kitchen.
We always have a good time and lots of good-natured chat, so if you enjoy music of any kind why not come along? You don't even have to bring along something to play if you don't want to, as you are more than welcome to just come and listen to our many and varied selections.
