Music Group
The Music Group is open to all Shed Members. You can either bring along a track to play (CD or by mobile app preferred) or just come along and listen to the selections of others. We have a monthly theme, and all types of music are welcome. The Club meets on a monthly basis throughout the year – normally the first Wednesday in the month and starting as soon as possible after 9.30 in the room at the back of the bar near the pool table. There is no additional charge other than the usual £2 Shed sub payable in the social room. We also run a quarterly Music Quiz in the same room after four sessions each year, from 12 - 2, with lunch or snacks available from the bar.

Music Group Latest News
Our first session of 2026 saw numbers down compared to the end of last year, mainly as a result of illness. Jeff, John C-M, Les and Steve were all poorly, with both Steve and his wife Aileen being in hospital after a nasty dose of something. John Parling however was allowed to go on his holiday to Lanzarote as none of us were jealous AT ALL! Fortunately, the icy conditions of Tuesday midday were washed away by overnight rain, and the room wasn’t too cold.
The first theme of 2026 was ‘Transport and Travel’, which saw the usual wide range of songs from the 30’s to 90’s, showcasing driving cars or motorbikes, train rides and even one flight. Even with a reduced turnout we had a full morning, so if everyone gets fit for next month, we may our new 3-hour timeslot.
The top five tunes were
1st “The Road to Hell, Part 2” by Chris Rea, picked by Bill, on 7.73
2nd “Maybellene” by Chuck Berry, picked by Peter Green on 7.47
3rd “The Trolley Song” by Judy Garland, picked by Wayne, on 7.33
4th “Freight Train Blues” by Jools Holland and Ruby Turner, picked by Neil, on 7.27
5th “Sunnyland Train’” by Elmore James, picked by Ray, on 7.2
Our next meeting will be on Wednesday February 4th, when the theme will be “TV themes and incidental music”. Make sure you are there by 9.30 so we can make a good early start. Next month will also see a notable milestone pass as we will play the 600th song since the group started. I’ve been meaning to highlight each hundred as it passes but have got distracted, so 2026 sees a new start.
We always have a good time and lots of good-natured chat, so if you enjoy music of any kind why not come along? You don't even have to bring along something to play if you don't want to, as you are more than welcome to just come and listen to our many and varied selections.”
